Have you laughed out loud today ! It feels so good ! I haven’t laughed by 9:00 am on any given day, that is off to a poor start! If childhood pain and trauma have hampered your humor development , you have some catching up to do . Enough crying already! There is a place for laughter says the wise man: “ a time to weep and a time to laugh “.

Terminal seriousness is not a requirement recovery. Sobriety is not spelled sombriety! For a person in recovery , the return of spontaneity indicates that one’s personality is becoming more balanced. Humor can be a powerful ally in sustaining wellness and preventing relapse.

Laughter comes in many forms , from a subtle smile to a convulsive belly laugh. We don’t have to get hysterical, fall out of a chair or laugh until we cry to be laughing sufficiently. If simple smile stimulates the immune system. A quick chartle is a step in the right direction. Can people develop humor skills ? If humor is such a good medicine , can we get more of this healthy exposure into our everyday lives ? Can we stimulate laughter in ourselves and those around us ? For starters , use your imagination to exaggerate a serious thought or event to the point of absurdity.

At one point in my Christian life , I deliberately skipped the jokes in magazines because I thought that should limit my reading to informative article . Now I read jokes and skip the serious material .
